We want all applicants to present themselves in the best possible light on their application and encourage applicants to seek help from friends, parents, counselors and teachers. However, UC expects all applicants to complete their application materials and ensure that all application information is complete, accurate and truthful.
UC’s immunization policy requires incoming students to receive certain vaccines and exams recommended by the California Department of Public Health for colleges and universities.
Currently required vaccines include: measles, mumps and rubella; Vaccines against varicella (VZV), tetanus, diphtheria and pertussis (Tdap) and COVID-19. Students 21 years of age and younger must receive the meningococcal conjugate vaccine (MenACWY), and all incoming students must also complete an online screening questionnaire for tuberculosis, according to CDPH guidelines. Personal questions Imagine that the UC was a person. If we met, what would you want us to know about you? These personal knowledge questions let you tell us. You can write about your creative side. Your opinion on leadership. A challenge you have faced. Whatever questions you answer, be sure to show us your personality, just like you would in real life.
Remember, personal questions are just that: personal. This means that you should use our instructions for each question only as a suggestion if you need help. What matters is who you are, what is important to you and what you want to share with UC.
Financial Aid Steps To Success: From App To Sap
1. Describe an example of your leadership experience where you positively influenced others, helped resolve conflicts, or contributed to group efforts over time.
A leadership role can mean more than a title. This may mean being a mentor to others, acting as a person in charge of a specific task or taking a leadership role in organizing an event or project. Think about what you accomplished and what you learned from the experience. What were your responsibilities?
Do you lead a team? How did your experience change your perspective on leading others? Did you help resolve a major conflict in your school, church, community or organization? And your leadership role doesn’t have to be limited to school activities. For example, do you help or take care of your family?
2. Everyone has a creative side, and it can be expressed in many ways: problem solving, original and innovative thinking, and artistically, to name a few. Describe how you express your creative side.
Personal Insight Questions
What does creativity mean to you? Do you have a creative skill that is important to you? What can you do with this skill? If you used creativity to solve a problem, what was your solution? What steps did you take to resolve the issue?
How does your creativity influence your decisions in or out of the classroom? Is your creativity related to your professional or future career?
3. What would you say is your greatest talent or skill? How have you developed and demonstrated this talent over time?
If there’s a talent or skill you’re proud of, it’s time to share it. You don’t necessarily need to be recognized or receive an award for your talent (although if you have and want to talk about it, feel free to do so). Why is this talent or skill significant to you?

Does the talent come naturally or did you work hard to develop that skill or talent? Does your talent or skill offer you opportunities inside or outside the classroom? If so, what are they and how do they fit into your schedule?
4. Describe how you took advantage of an important educational opportunity or worked to overcome an educational obstacle you faced.
An educational opportunity can be anything that adds value to your educational experience and better prepares you for college. For example, participating in an honors or academic enrichment program, or enrolling in an academy that prepares you for a profession or major, or taking advanced courses that interest you, just to name a few.
If you chose to write about the academic obstacles you faced, how did you overcome them or try to overcome them? What personal qualities or skills did you bring to this challenge? How did this obstacle help you become who you are today?

5. Describe the biggest challenge you faced and the steps you took to overcome that challenge. How has this challenge affected your academic success?
A challenge can be personal or something you’ve faced in your community or school. Why was the challenge important to you? This is a good opportunity to talk about the obstacles you encountered and what you learned from the experience. Did you have the support of someone else or did you manage it on your own?
If you are currently working to overcome a challenge, what are you doing now that affects different areas of your life? For example, ask yourself, “How has my life changed at home, at school, with my friends, or with my family?”
6. Think of an academic topic that inspires you. Describe how you developed this interest in and/or outside the classroom.
After You Apply
Many students have a passion for a particular academic subject, something they can’t get enough of. If this applies to you, what have you done to foster this interest? Discuss how your interest in the topic developed and describe any experiences you’ve had inside and outside the classroom, such as volunteering, internships, employment, summer programs, student organizations, and / or the clubs. Participation, and what you get out of your participation. .
Has your interest in the subject influenced you when choosing a major and/or future career? Have you been able to do higher level work in this subject (tuition, AP, IB, college or university work)? Are you inspired to advance this topic at UC and how can you do it?
Think of community as a term that can encompass a group, team, or place, such as your high school, town, or home. You can define the community however you see fit, just make sure you talk about your role in that community. Was there a problem you wanted to solve in your community?
Why were you inspired to act? What did you learn from your attempt? How have your actions benefited others, the community at large, or both? Do you work alone or with others to initiate change in your community?

8. In addition to what has already been shared in your application, what do you think makes you a good candidate for the University of California?

Tell us about yourself so we can learn about your personality, skills, accomplishments, and potential for success on the UC campus. Use “I” and “my” statements in your answers.
Although you will not be assessed on grammar, spelling or sentence structure, you should review your work and ensure that your writing is clear. Grammar and spelling mistakes can confuse the reader and get in the way of what you are trying to communicate.
Your answers should reflect your own thoughts and be written by you, but other people (family members, teachers and friends) can offer valuable suggestions. Take advice from whoever you want, but don’t plagiarize from print or online sources and don’t use anyone else’s words, published or unpublished, but your own.
When you are satisfied with your answers, save them in plain text (ASCII) and paste them into the space in the application. Double-check to make sure no extraneous characters or line breaks have appeared.
