Screen Capture Apps For Mac – Taking photos on your MacBook, iMac, iPhone or iPad is a great way to save things. Instead of saving a link to a website, you can save a picture of it so you can see how it looks when you shoot it. You’ll want to do this if you’ve bought something online and want to keep a record of the purchase confirmation. You can also take photos to remember the items you bought on your iPhone or iPad, or send them to a friend to show off something you found. You can take pictures of a text to post on social media or take pictures of friends in a FaceTime call. Or you may need to take a picture to show a problem with your device.
On MacOS, iOS and iPadOS, it’s easy to take photos, stickers and notes and save them to the Photos app (or the organizer on your Mac) for quick access. You can take photos from your Apple Watch and Apple TV.
Screen Capture Apps For Mac
Mac is an easy way to take photos. These are long accessible with keyboard shortcuts, but there is a Grab app available up to macOS 10.13 High Sierra. In macOS 14, Mojave, this was replaced by Screenshot, a more powerful and flexible app. You can launch this app by double-clicking it – it can be found in /Applications/Tools – but it’s easier to just use the keyboard shortcuts that describe its features. If you are used to using the spacebar key on Windows, this key does not exist on Mac keyboards, but uses a number of keyboard shortcuts.

On a Mac, Command-Shift-3 takes a screenshot of the entire screen. When you press these keys, you will hear a camera shutter sound, and the screenshot will be saved on your desktop as a PNG file. The file name of the document contains the date and time the photo was taken.
HDCP (Digital Content Protection) protected video content – such as a movie or TV show in the TV app – will be blacked out, but otherwise your image will show all the content on your screen when you took the photo.
But you can do more than just take a picture of your entire display. There are many different types of pictures you can take, with their own keyboard shortcuts, whether you’re using an iMac, MacBook or Mac mini with an external display.
When you click on Options, the menu will give you a number of options for your screenshot or screenshot.
Screenshot On Mac Not Working
None of the above options can shoot a long web page that goes over several screens; they take pictures of what you see. If you want to take a screenshot of the entire website, you can use the Awesome Screenshot extension in Safari for that.
By default, you take photos on the Mac and save them to your desktop. Some people want to save themselves there; others find the shade too much. If you use screenshots, you may want to create and edit a screenshots folder somewhere where the screenshots are stored.
To do this, press Command-Shift-5, click on Options, and in the Options menu you will see a number of options (as shown in the image above). If you want to save your photos in a custom folder, click More Locations and select a folder, or click New Folder to create one. In my example above, I save my screenshots in a folder called Screenshots, in my Documents folder. All future screenshots will be saved to this location, not just the ones when you start using this photo tool.
If you don’t turn off the above floating thumbnail option, your Mac will display your screenshot in a thumbnail in the lower right corner of your display for a few seconds. If you click on the vignette, you can crop and draw your photo. There are several tools at the top of this window: see this Apple Support article for more information.

If you have multiple Macs, you can take photos using Screen Sharing, which is great for focusing on what you’re shooting on one Mac while you’re working on one shot and saving it to another.
You enable screen sharing on a Mac by checking the Screen Sharing box in System Preferences > Sharing. In the Finder toolbar on your Mac, select the shared computer, click Screen Sharing, and then enter the username and password you use to access that Mac. When the Screen Sharing app is launched, the Mac’s desktop appears in a window.
Screenshots can be saved at any time using Link > Save Desktop As… (you can set a shortcut in the keyboard pane of System Preferences if you want).
When taking photos like this, keep two things in mind. First, increase the quality settings (View > Full Quality), or your photos will look like compressed JPEGs. Second, if the display of the shared computer is larger than the screen you are sharing, turn off scaling in the View menu, or the captured images are not in their original resolution – instead they are scaled to their original size. . it is also displayed in the screen sharing app.
